Bike Trip 4.0 Day 1 Recap

We made it to Alliance at about 6:15 after leaving Hermitage at 10:30.

The time isn’t the greatest, but it’s not horrible, for us anyway. We made a few water stops and stretch breaks, plus got caught in the rain once and stopped under a tree. As we got closer to the hotel we also got caught in the rain but pushed through to be done with it.

Along the way Plonker broke a spoke and I lost a screw holding my cargo rack. The rack is leaning but is currently holding. The broken spoke allowed the wheel to get out of true and started rubbing heavily on the brake. We didn’t realize this at the time, so Plonker had to push extra hard the last (at least) 30 miles. At the hotel I opened up the brakes to allow easier movement.

There’s a bike shop just up the street from the hotel. It was closed by the time we reached the hotel, and apparently doesn’t open again until Wednesday at 1 PM. Mind you it’s now Tuesday, so that’s not so helpful. I found a bike shop near our route in Massillon so I’ve changed course to reach it. They’re supposed to be open today and they’re only about mile 24 of todays 63 miles. With any luck they’ll be able to fix the spoke and provide me with a screw.

We ate at Texas Roadhouse last night. I should say I overate at Texas Roadhouse last night. Everything was great until I hit “The Wall” and could barely get down the rest of my food. Don’t worry though, I crammed it all down. I couldn’t even finish my beer, I was just too full and too tired. Plonker fared a little better in that he at least didn’t let anything go to waste, but the wall was hitting him too.

Tonight’s destination is Millersburg. Looking at the maps it doesn’t appear to have much around in the way of restaurants. Around the hotel is mainly fast food and Subway.

The rain has currently subsided, but the weather app is chowing chances of rain, although I’m not seeing anything on the radar, so I’m hoping for the best.

About Hoff

Hoff spends his time tearing things apart in the hopes of making them work better. Sometimes he's actually successful. In his "spare" time he likes to eat, sleep, and thinking of places to go to get out of this God forsaken hell hole of a valley. Also he likes to bake.
